SADISM AND MASOCHISM Wilhelm Stekel SADISM AND MASOCHISM, first published in English in 1929, remains the most important book of its kind since Krafft-Ebing's Psychopathia Sexualis of the previous century, a masterwork of psychoanalysis documenting all that is cruel and aberrant in humankind. In this culminatory document of his pioneering research, Wilhelm Stekel describes some of the most disturbing, violent and extreme instances of sexual perversion ever recorded. The 64 case histories reprinted here include such paraphilias as: Vampirism, Cannibalism and Necrophilia; Castration and Amputation Complexes; Genital Mutilation; Bestiality and Sodomy with Dogs; Impalement Fantasies; Crucifixion Complexes; Urolagnia and Coprophilia; Anal Fetishes; and Whippings, Beatings and Blood. Wilhelm Stekel (1868-1940) was a psychologist of Polish origin, and one of Sigmund Freud's earliest followers. Branching away from Freud, Stekel began to specialise in the treatment of psychosexual disorders, and invented the now-familiar term paraphilia to cover this spectrum of mental illness. His influential works, culminating in Sadism And Masochism, were translated in many languages. He died by suicide. SOLAR ASYLUM
